          Description

HMS York is a British Royal Navy heavy cruiser active during World War II. It is the first ship in the York class. The ship was used as a convoy escort in the Atlantic and took part in the Norwegian Campaign in 1940. Later that year she was sent to the Mediterranean theater where she was again used as an escort. In March 1941 the ship was attacked by Italian exploding motorboats at Suda Bay in Crete.
